Things to Do as a Student in Provo, Utah

One of the best parts about student life in Provo is how much there is to do year-round. Between the mountains, campus events, sports culture, and local entertainment, students can always find something fun without spending a fortune.

Provo is surrounded by incredible outdoor recreation, making it easy to take a study break and get outside. Students often spend weekends hiking trails near Provo Canyon, biking along the Provo River Trail, or kayaking at Utah Lake.

During the winter, students frequently head to nearby ski resorts like Sundance for skiing and snowboarding. Whether you want a quick walk after class or a full-day adventure, outdoor activities are a major part of student life here.

While Provo has a more laid-back atmosphere than larger cities, there are still plenty of ways to stay entertained. Students often spend evenings exploring Downtown Provo, where you’ll find live music venues like Velour Live Music Gallery, movie nights at Cinemark Provo 16, and late-night restaurants like The Social. Nearby cities like Orem and Salt Lake City also offer additional concert venues, comedy clubs, and nightlife options for weekend plans.

Sports are a huge part of the culture in Provo. Game days at Brigham Young University bring students together for football at LaVell Edwards Stadium and basketball games at Marriott Center. Students can also participate in BYU intramurals, local recreation leagues, or watch Utah professional teams like the Utah Jazz and Real Salt Lake with friends at local sports bars and restaurants.

There’s always something happening around Provo, especially during the warmer seasons. Students frequently attend events like the Freedom Festival, seasonal farmers markets at Pioneer Park, and concerts at local venues throughout downtown. Campus events hosted by Brigham Young University also provide students with affordable entertainment, social activities, and opportunities to meet new people throughout the school year.
